derka derka

So I was going to post earlier but never quite got around to it. Short post but what the hell...

I've seen a few more films (Pineapple Express, 1/2 of 'children of man' or something). Not bad, not bad.

Been playing TF2 a bit again, playing on 2fort insta-spawn server. Not too bad... Obviously a very different style of play but fun all the same.

For xmas I recieved a mug, chocolate coins, a shaver, a t-shirt and 2x pair of socks. Not too bad.

Smeh, took too long making this post now cbf, lol. Finishing later!

Times

Yeah so I've now seen highschool musical 3 and death race. And been catching up with people. And playing the new Guitar hero, concerned that my guitar is dodgy.

Lame

Bwahahahahaha

Update - yeah that was my good pal Emma Cheezeman making the above comment. She sure is an exciting one folks...

I like this! ^^

Yay for rational smart people!

Helios

Helios is the band i'm listening to as i write this, i guess you would call their music 'ambient'.

So i've been up north to Ledge Point and back. Merry times had by all/most. Still a bunch of people up there but I was happy enough to come home - I can get sick of people pretty quickly haha. Mr Social that I am. Anyway, pictures on facebook.

Kinda tired of L4D atm, started on mass effect. Seems interesting and good but the combat & team system is taking a little getting used to, and whats with the lack of a decent save system? screw that shit to hell :(

F3?

Yeah so I got tired of fallout 3 today and pushed through to finish it. I think it was somewhere around the 36 hour mark. It's not that it was bad, but I just wanted it to be over. I'm not sure if I'll play it again. Right now... I'm just glad it's finished.

Also watched kiss kiss bang bang. Pretty quirky but not bad. I'm less certain about the like orgasm everyone seems to have over it though.

Unemployed

Yes, currently unemployed. Hoping for a job offer with my work experience folks to pop up fairly soon.

Tonight was out having some catch up drinks with my pal Blair. It was good - don't see him too often since he has been busy with uni, and now work, and GF over both.

So I took my dog to vet today. Having her temperature taken was kinda lulz. She's a really nice dog so didn't get upset but just like a slightly worried/concerned look and like "why is a lady doing things to my pooper? :( ". Daisy actually loves the vet as they shower her with dog food/treats.

I have the hiccups. How gay.

Fallout 3 is pretty close to completion I think. I had been doing a lot of side mission stuff but I'm getting pretty bored of it so I want to finish it off/cross off my list. I'd like to buy Mount & Blade but at the moment I just can't justify paying nearly $50 for a fairly rough/unpolished game. Damn our weak Australian currency.

Went and had lunch with Totty the other day, it was good but I keep forgetting that I should never order soup-ish meals at food courts, it's always especially cheap and horrible.

On a slight rant, if you're old (like 50+) and still working as a checkout chick at woolworths, don't vent on the customers just because you have a shitty job (and a shitty life?). Maybe she was having a bad day, but fuck you old woman, I asked a simple question and you got all up in my face about it. And you were wrong. Eat poop and die :)

What else... I watched Juno and liked it. I watched Iron Man and liked it. I hated myself for some of my thoughts during the film though. As he's getting pelted with .50cal machine gun fire and not really getting damaged/hurt, I'm like "nah that's totally unrealistic". This in a film where he has just made an arc reactor? out of nothing, and constructed a mechanised robot suit from effectively bits and pieces. Anyway, not bad. Also watched Tropic Thunder. I enjoyed it less, but it does have some good moments.

bring bring

lulz

also, L4D is getting better now they've patched it like 5 times, and there are actual servers around. I'd still rather all servers be able to acccept ppl through the server spy though, and not use this matchmaking thing.

quickie

A short post, Fallout 3 is a winner.

The left4dead demo, for which i waited so anxiously, is utter tripe. What the hell man... (and by man, I mean valve.)

irradiated cats

So yeah still playing through fallout3, i'm liking it the more i play it, but it's the only game to crash my computer on a consistent basis. Unpredictable, but fairly reliable to crash. So that's quite epic gay. At least the game loads quick, and makes autosaves frequently. It's kinda funny playing the game and knowing it was almost banned for some obscure drug issues, when it's so very very violent.

in other news, onto my last essay at uni. I don't really like the question.

Fallout 3: In progress.

Apparently someone broke the release date, so picked a copy up form EBgames (price matched to JBhifi of course... guy tried to rip me off, charging $100 T_T)

Buried

Purchased maybe Thursday or Friday last week, finished last night. I quite enjoyed it, and played it pretty heavily over the weekend. Ended up clocking it in around 18 hours, not doing all of the available side missions and with a fair amount of wasted time. Speed run, it was not. Without going into heaps of detail, AI and a fairly linear/repetitive mission structure were the main shortcomings of the game. Storyline, graphics and the 'sandbox' nature of the game were probably the strongest things going for it. Fire propagation is nice ^^

One to go.

Received Persepolis today, just waiting on V for Vendetta.

Pretty much finished work experience, wouldn't mind keeping on working there somehow but seems unlikely.

Wut?

Call to study more British. No, no, and no. In my experience, history lessons were already anglo-centric to an excessive point. Yes it's important to know our origins, but that needs to be in a world context. I'm just trying to think about his reasoning for these comments, whether it's the Catholic background, or is he a monarchist? I forget. Either way, I disagree. Bring on asian studies in school, particularly Indonesia. Our biggest neighbour and I bet most Australians just think of it as "that place Michelle Corby is" or "Home of Bali Bombers". Not good T_T

New?

Awhile ago I ordered some books for myself and one as a gift for my brother. They've been arriving in drips and drabs.

So far I have received...

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

The Watchmen

Into the Wild (gift)

Still waiting on...

Persepolis

V for Vendetta

I used this website, BetterWorld.com, prices were pretty good and while shipping was slow, it wasn't outside of what they suggested it may take (up to 21 business days).

In other news, did a game design essay today/last night, hopefully it's not shit. I swapped my finished essay with a friend doing the same unit - we'd written about vastly different things, so we're hoping that it's more that the question was too open, and not that one of us has screwed the pooch.

Speaking of, I love that saying. Screwed the pooch. Genius.

Moocalata

Wow, a box. With some colour. Aren't you all lucky?

And the start of something, but I think it's fairly broken and needs to go again from start. Oh and now my mild cold is a full blown runny nose/sore throat affair, and it shits me.

Migoreng

Guess what I'm eating folks? Yep, noodles. Magical noodles. Magical 39c-per-package-when-you-buy-a-box noodles.

So I've been semi-sick for awhile, I don't really know why. It's not so much actually being sick, but feeling on the verge of being sick. Tiredness, on/off running nose, etc. It's annoying.

Listening to recorded lecture called 'designing virtual play'. The lecturer is good guy - has a funny laugh. "I had some of most social nights of my life playing Goldeneye, sure we were killing each other but we were having so much fun doing it". yaaaaaaay gamers.

Look's like they've cracked the Wii to run backup-games without requiring hardware modification - interesting times.

Doing research/work today has been effort, I'm blaming sickness.

I'm not usually a cat person, but this is so cute.

Another crap attack!

Party

Was at party of esperance workmate last night, was a pretty good place to be. And I drank heaps of water with my boozing, so no hangover! Quite awesome! I need to brush my teeth though...

Interesting!

Probably the most interesting part of the self.net unit so far, there's a person who's engaging me on topics. I guess noone else really has the effort to reply? Anyway, it's now about sexism in gaming, after originally being about whether females have equal access to computers as men.

Funnily enough, I really don't have the effort to post a reply to it now - at least not a proper response. I'd love to have the person's msn/chat so we could actually 'speak' about it, but it probably looks better arguing where the unit coordinator/tutor can actually see it and see we're actually, you know, thinking about things.

In other news, watching US series of the Office cheered me up. Yay!

edit: too tired to post in self.net, yet not too tired to spam a crappy drawing on my NDS? I'm just avoiding replying for now I guess :P

*yawn*

Today was strange... went to bed fairly late. Got up to move car for neighbours (long story), went back to bed. Got up, had breakfast, ra-ra-ra, went to uni. Lecture/workshop was so-so. I took notes for the first time this semester. Got home (passed a crash on Stirling Highway - police, some beaten up cars and some worried/sad young adults sitting nearby. I felt sorry for them. The weather seemed in the right mood too, drab and overcast), had a beer and some pizza. Beer felt fairly potent, felt good for awhile but then had a fairly average sobering period - went and slept on bed. Woke up with mum getting home from work. Don't know why but I'm just feeling sad.

edit: ooo picture adding?

Om nom nom

Pizza for breakfast, it's a win.

Mum accidentally bought tea-pot bags instead of tea-cup bags. So now I'm drinking a pot of tea where I used to be drinking a cup. I enjoy the indulgence.

Electioneering

Good song by Radiohead. If only condition of WA state elections were as good as the song. Current feeling... whoever comes into power, it will be equally damaging to the state and the people of Western Australia. In short, we're boned.

Almost forgot...

So I went and saw Opeth at Metro Perth on 2nd Sept, was pretty darn tootin good show. I'm currently hungover and not up to much, maybe later on I'll chuck up some blurry low-res phone pictures.

When I put it like that.. why would I bother? Noone wants to see low-res blurry phone pictures.

Birthday joy?

On a strange side-note, I haven't cleaned the car yet. What a strange thing of me to do, suggest I had to wash the car... ha-ha-haaaaaaaaaa... ahhhh I will soon :(

A friend is having his 21st bday tonight, should be a good evening. He's said he is providing booze for 100 people T_T poor lad. I bet he regrets that. I just bought him a present! Book, book voucher, and poster. More on that in another post soon.

Oh yeah, maybe this is what I was going to say... I'm tired and have an angry eye. It's red/bloodshot. I'm also just tired alot. Damn that sleepyness, damn it to hell I say! (sounds familiar, wonder if I've said it before.)

Oh, NOW I remember what else I was going to mention. My hair is big and awesome. For the party I plan to gel/wax it up and make it even more awesome! Explosive awesome hair! Oh yeaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Monday, September 1, 2008

Ugh

It's late again. I have to wash car today. It's been awhile so may or may not be an epic task...

Hangovers T_T

May have had a few to drink last night. May be feeling quite ill right now. May be blaming it not so much on the booze, but the snack foods that I consumed.

Let's get this *insert event here* started!

I had a blog once before, posted about as often as I felt like it, which was could be days-weeks-months. Generally only my dedicated pals used to read it. Who knows who'll read this?

Starting this blog as I'm @ UWA doing a unit called Self.Net. As part of this unit, all the students participate in a tutorial blog. I'm going another step and will try to write a blog, for at least as long as the unit runs, lets see... updating at least once a week. Chances are it'll be somewhat like my previous blog in that it'll be a bit of link filtering, but mainly my own personal crap.

Link filtering? Posting links to stuff that makes me raff!

What's this Self.Net unit about? So far... basically about... identity/what it is to be human/cyborgs/cyberpunk/blogs. A bunch of stuff really. I'm yet to decide how much I really like it (and as you can probably guess, I'm yet to understand what it's really about). I should probably re-read the unit guide... but that is effort.

What else about me? I suppose I could explain a bit seeing as it's a first post. I'm also doing a unit on game design, which I'm finding fairly interesting and enjoyable. The first tute was 2 hours spent playing board games. Awesome. Every unit should do that.

I'm also doing the 'Arts Practicum' which is basically work experience for arts students, because lets face it, our qualifications aren't quite as specific as say... an engineer. They can say "I design stuff that fills this role, and will perform well in-blah blah blah blah." Arts students? "Uh, I can write good essays...". Anyway, I'm getting sidetracked. My 'work experience' is actually with a local game development studio. I was pretty stoked about that. Being an arts student and not say... a 3d modeller (Blender is cool!), I'm basically doing research for them. It's good to be involved.

I think I've had enough writing for now, I could ramble on but nobody needs that, do they?
